When a friend of mine’s grandmother died, he inherited a set of plain napkins that she had cross-stitched flowers in the corner of. He and his wife are about to have a baby girl — this week! — and she sent me two of the napkins and asked me to embroider a couple of passages from Tina Fey’s “A Mother’s Prayer for Her Child” so that she can frame them for use in her room.

So, this is a long walk for a short drink but here goes … I was stitching this bookmark over the weekend. Sunday was Easter and I was thinking about how my favorite Easter basket as a kid included a copy of “Nancy Drew and The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes.” Since this was a little Scottish lass, I decided to include a Nancy Drew quote. This is actually from a different book (“The Bungalow Mystery”) but I thought it was made for a bookmark.
